The Amazon Mānuka problem
Amazon is the most-used channel for Mānuka honey purchases in the US. It is also where most counterfeit Mānuka ends up. Because Amazon allows third-party sellers to list under brand-name listings, it is not uncommon for a UMF-labelled product page to ship a jar that is unrelated to the brand or has been substituted.
The brands on this list are sold via their authorized brand storefronts on Amazon. Buying from those specific listings (rather than third-party "fulfilled by Amazon" copies) reduces but does not eliminate counterfeit risk.
How to verify a Mānuka jar from Amazon is real
Three checks rule out the obvious counterfeits:
- UMF licence number on the label. UMFHA-licensed brands print a 4-digit licence number. Cross-reference at umf.org.nz.
- Origin: New Zealand. Mānuka must be from New Zealand to carry UMF certification. Some Australian Mānuka honey is real Mānuka but is not UMFHA-certified.
- Batch / lot number. A jar that does not allow lot-number lookup at the brand's website has been removed from the brand's authentication chain.

Promotional pricing, Amazon-specific bundles, and clearance of older batches. Older batches are not "expired", Mānuka has a multi-year shelf life, but they may be priced down to make room for newer stock.
